MOBLIN GUIDE

A NOTE ABOUT MOBLIN

While I think it is an incredible + powerful tool to any IRL streamer if you do not have some kind of RTMP/SRT into a stable remote setup OR relay / drop protection through a service such as LightStream or IRLtoolkit or etc then this software priortizes pushing a LINEAR feed through to the platform rather than the standard "buffer time travel" to whatever is currently happening LIVE which if it happens long enough or enough times can cause significant delays .... so if you are in a poor service area or moving about a lot without the RTMP/SRT/etc & the potential of that bothers you or you can't afford a service / have remote setup then it may not be for you at this time.

Things You'll Need

MOBLIN: The closest thing I’ve personally found to OBS on mobile that isn’t SLOBS , SEmobile or PrismLive. It focuses on Twitch but is still pretty powerful all around. Must use GIFs or static images for SE overlays. Unfortunately no multistream without remoting to PC or using something like Restream. Is only available on iOS.

StreamElements: Alerts , overlays & widgets for streaming. Sign up via your platform[s] & then create the browser source overlays that will go into the scenes you create within OBS/Moblin/etc. Can also add people as editors to make or manage things for you.

Botrix: May be better for onscreen chat on YouTube than StreamElements is [even offers horizontal one too]. It also has other browser source widgets + labels that SE doesn’t have such as spectator count , likes goal , TTS chat via command + more.

Setting Up Streams

Two ways to setup your stream. You can either Âčuse the Setup button in the lower right corner or you can ÂČclick the settings cog > click streams > click create. The second method is also the same section any stored stream info will be located.

Things To Note:

  • No multistreaming without remoting into OBS on PC or using a relay service such as Restream.
  • Must have "background streaming" on to exit app without ending stream although this still isn't the most reliable & best to just not exit while streaming.
  • YouTube is not a "static" platform for streaming since every livestream is treated as it's own video. Because of this i'm under the impression that while it will communicate with YT via stored information you'd need to follow the setup instructions each time you go live to have it communicate properly & have videoID for built in chat function, otherwise you would need to read chat off of a chat overlay.
  • YouTube's emotes do not translate well with any overlay or chat that isn't scraped due to the API.

SCENES

Defaults: By default it will have a "Back" + "Front" scene .... You can stick with these , keep them clean + add new scenes to use with your overlays OR add overlays aka "widgets" to these defaults.

Scenes+Widgets: To create scenes or widgets you'll ³click the settings cog > click scenes > click create under whichever element you want to make. ⁎Be sure to rename them for less confusion later on. ⁔It is also recommended FPS of 10-15 rather than defaulted 5 unless your device / single seems to be struggling.

BROWSER SOURCES

For browser sourcve overlays created using something like StreamElements or Botrix or ETC you will ⁶select browser as type + place source link into the URL section.

  • Be sure to adjust width + height to match that of the browser source itself or there will be an error in loading.

StreamElements [SE] + Botrix

Connecting SE + Botrix: To use both SE + botrix you will have to sign-in via your platform for it to connect to them. For YouTube, if all you want is subscription/member/superchat/YT-based alerts + info then that's it for setup!

Stream Elements

  • With SE you can make full already layered + positioned overlays which means you don't have to add as many layers directly into Moblin or do as much formatting.
  • If you would like to do more such as merch/products alerts you could setup a Fourthwall store & integrate that with SE.
  • If you would like tip/dono alerts you would set up the tipping feature within SE , I recommend SE as there are more options + better alerts.

Botrix

  • With Botrix it may communicate better with YT for chat , although emotes don't translate well using anything that isn't scraped due to the API. It also has features that SE doesn't have such as a spectator count , likes goal , role assigned TTS chat via command [may be helpful for mods , especially if it's a driving stream] + more.
  • If you would like tip/dono alerts you would set up the tipping feature within Botrix , although I recommend SE.

OVERLAYS + ALERTS

StreamElements [SE]

EDITORS ON SE

On SE there is a section under  ÂčChannel Settings where you can add editors/managers. If you would like someone to be able to edit overlays or anything on SE for you this would be the simplest way even if the permission is only granted temporarily.

OVERLAYS VS ELEMENTS

On SE there are two waysÂČ to create overlays. They have an “overlays” feature & an “elements” feature. With overlays once they are saved + published you will  ³click the little 🔗icon within the editor to get the browser source URL OR you can  ⁎copy it from the display page. With elements they are able to be created + shared , meaning someone could create them without being an editor & send them to you , then you import them into your account + copy the same way as overlays⁔‟⁶
. there’s a lot of overlap but both features function differently so it depends on your vision/design which one is better or easier to use.

BOTRIX

NO EDITORS ON BOTRIX

On Botrix there is no way to add an editor , at least not for free , it may be a premium feature but I’m unsure. Botrix however is a little more straightforward than SE & even mobile friendly so it may not be an issue. It’s just drop down menus & selections right on the page.

LINKS ON BOTRIX

On Botrix which ever widget you create will have the browser source link labeled within the same page , front & center.
